America: Land of the Free! What does this mean?

I believe that many people in America take freedom for granted because they have never been without the liberty to make choices. We can choose where and how to live, work, and worship.

We choose our friends and partners, how we raise our families, how we lead our daily lives and where we vacation. We choose our elected officials and determine how to punish wrongdoers.

But do we recognize that our freedoms are among those ‘self-evident truths’ with which all men “…are endowed by their Creator…”? Do we remember that these are blessings from God? As we celebrate another Independence Day, let us not forget to thank the One who gives us our greatest freedoms.
