In South Carolina, we no longer segregate children from certain public libraries, parks, or swimming pools because of the color of their skin or their family’s income. But what about public schools? Wealthy parents can buy a home in the “right” school district and by law their child will have a seat. Most low- and moderate-income parents do not have that option, even for schools with open seats.
