South Carolina should take an
“all of the
above” approach in its quest for more good
teachers, and new pathways to build on
the specific interests of students. Imagine a
state where: every student can choose from hundreds of courses
(“online course access”),
students can progress through courses at their own pace
(“competency-based instruction”)
and teachers can be drawn from a wider pool
(alternative paths to certification including
non-baccalaureate options).
