Introducing our 2024 Junior Policy Scholars

June 24, 2024

Palmetto Promise Team

We are thrilled to announce a new Palmetto Promise Institute program this summer: the Junior Policy Scholars.

The Junior Policy Scholar program, while newly named, is not new to Palmetto Promise. We have long taken talented high school students as interns and worked with them to develop remote internships and publish their pieces on our blog. Now formally named, Junior Policy Scholars are talented South Carolina high school students who support the Palmetto Promise mission over the summer through independent research and policy advocacy. Each Scholar dives deep into policy topics fitting their interests to produce articles and policy briefings for publication on the Palmetto Promise website. Our team supplements their work by assigning readings and facilitating informational interviews with policy experts so Scholars can learn more about the policy areas they find most interesting.

We have a talented inaugural cohort of Junior Policy Scholars, and we are so excited to welcome them to the team.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Luca and Joy, our 2024 Junior Policy Scholars!

LUCA RITTER is a rising high school senior from Spartanburg, SC, where she is homeschooled and attends Upstate Homeschool Co-op. She hopes to be a criminal justice attorney.

JOY DAVIS is a rising senior at Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, SC. She aspires to be a criminal defense attorney.

These impressive Scholars are working on some amazing projects this summer, and we can’t wait to share them with you in the coming months.

Stay tuned for their upcoming blog posts and research projects!
