McMaster, Evette help South Carolina celebrate School Choice Week
This week, we joined states across the country in celebrating the 10th Annual National School Choice Week. Both the South Carolina Senate and House adopted resolutions recognizing January 26 – February 1 as National School Choice Week in South Carolina.
We were excited to have support from Governor Henry McMaster and Lt. Governor Pamela Evette during National School Choice Week. Lt. Governor Evette joined Palmetto Promise Institute and My SC Education for our School Choice Legislative Day on Tuesday and Governor McMaster released a video this week calling for parents to have “the choice to send their children to places that they believe will suit their needs the best.”
Gov. @henrymcmaster and I support & strongly believe in #SchoolChoice. To our SC parents, we will continue to stand by you so you can choose the best education for your children. And to our students, keep working hard and dreaming big. #nationalschoolchoiceweek @PalmettoPromise pic.twitter.com/F5rKbDutPS

On Tuesday, families, students, and school administrators from across South Carolina were able to visit their lawmaker to advocate for equal opportunity for special needs and low-income students in South Carolina. Students from Second Baptist Christian Preparatory School in Aiken, SC, had the opportunity to visit their Senator, Shane Massey, who is the sponsor of the Education Scholarship Account (ESA) bill to give parents more educational choices.
This is the same school that is the subject of Growing Up Great, a video produced by Palmetto Promise that explains how an ESA could make a difference in a community like Aiken.
As you can see, there is real momentum for bold school choice in South Carolina. We thank you for being a huge part of that momentum, whether you have signed petitions, supported financially, or just read our material – none of this progress would be possible without your help.
