NEW WEBSITE EQUIPS PARENTS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT LOCAL EDUCATION OPTIONS

MySCEducation.org site the first of its kind in South Carolina

Columbia, SC — Palmetto Promise Institute today announced the launch of a new website designed to give parents easy access to information about education options in their area. The site, which is fully searchable by zip code, enables parents to view local schools’ academic performance, specialized areas of study and levels of parent satisfaction.

It also includes state-reported information about every public school, including public magnet, charter and online schools. Additionally, with details about private schools, homeschool resources and background on South Carolina’s Exceptional SC tax credit scholarship program, it is the only website in the state to make this information available in one place for parents.

“This groundbreaking website will empower South Carolina families in exciting new ways as they seek out the best education option for their student,” said Palmetto Promise Institute President, Ellen Weaver. “Choosing a school setting that is right for your child can be a daunting task. Very few people in South Carolina could explain our system for evaluating school quality or explain the difference for example, between a public magnet and public charter school. Even interpreting individual student results for the ACT, SAT or other state administered tests can be a challenge.”

She concluded, “Knowledge is power.  We created My SC Education to equip parents with the information they need, across all school options, to be their student’s best advocate.”

Dr. Shaunette Parker, who will serve as Executive Director of the newly launched My SC Education efforts, said, “Parents are hungry for straightforward information about the education options available in their community. MySCEducation.org provides a one-stop-shop on an easy-to-use platform that will provide that information.” She continued, “This is only the beginning. We are eager to expand the site to include other parent-friendly resources that will further empower them to take an active role in their child’s education.”

In addition to specific school information, the website explains the different types of school options available to South Carolina families and offers an email sign up for parents who want to stay informed about the latest education news in the Palmetto State.
