Visiting Fellow, Healthcare

Marcelo Hochman, MD is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Charleston, South Carolina.  By working for 10 years in academia as a full-time employed physician and subsequently in independent private practice with a mix of insured, self-pay and indigent patients, Dr. Hochman has a unique lens through which he views healthcare delivery.  His private practice draws patients from throughout the southeastern United States and internationally. In addition, he continues to have a dedicated clinic and operating room time at the Medical University of South Carolina; the only independent doctor to do so.

Dr. Hochman was honored with The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award, the Community Service Award of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and named a ‘Health Care Hero’ by the Charleston Business Journal for his charitable work with patients with congenital vascular anomalies.  He currently serves as President of the Charleston County Medical Society where he champions legislative projects to repeal the Certificate of Need law; exempt Doctors from non-compete clauses as condition of employment and seeking a tax incentive for individual doctors who provide pro-bono charitable medical care.
