Thursday morning,  the Senate Medical Affairs Committee voted unanimously to move “Right to Try” legislation forward. The Senate bill was amended by Senator Hutto to include the right of signed caretakers to make right to try decisions on behalf of the mentally disabled.

The Committee cited Palmetto Promise Institute’s Senior Fellow Dr. Oran Smith’s strong testimony on behalf of this important idea.  This week was another great step forward as lawmakers continue to work to make South Carolina one of over 20 states to stand up for terminally ill patients and adopt this common sense legislation.
