Over the last three years, Santee Cooper has raised rates to pay for the construction of two nuclear reactors and a coal plant, bungled the projects, canceled them, and kept charging customers for them.
In court, they were ordered to pay some money back, but a big chunk of it went to lawyers, and the future debt burden is still huge.
The solution is clear.
We have willing buyers and the state needs cash due to the ongoing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s drive a hard bargain for SC taxpayers and turn Santee Cooper over to private enterprise.
