Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!
You, our readers, have spent the last few weeks participating in a Palmetto Promise March Madness of sorts, choosing each week the policies you believe are most important for the state of South Carolina.
And, perhaps unsurprisingly, given its victory in our bracket last year, Education Scholarship Accounts have come out on top!
We agree with y’all, that state legislators need to prioritize reinstating ESAs this legislative session. And given the news about the “magic amendment” this week, it looks like that might not be too far off.
While the House and Senate compromise is not quite universal, it does make 85% of South Carolina kids eligible for scholarships, and it gives the General Assembly room to increase the number of scholarships every year based on demand. That is pretty close to being a universal program!
State legislators should capitalize on the momentum for school choice and get S.62 across the finish line, quickly so parents are able to plan for next school year.
Thank you for voting in our Palmetto Freedom Agenda Faceoff – we’ll see you again next year!
